Dark & Light Zone was the first London exhibition of work by the celebrated experimental composer Marek Chołoniewski. At the heart of the exhibition Chołoniewski installed his most recent version of the interactive light and sound system ‘dark&lightZone’. Dark&lightzone was originally created in 1999 as a photosensitive instrument for trained musicians. Chołoniewski’s installation of the instrument at IMT offered the system to the audience, creating an every changing sonic experience triggered by their presence and movements. In addition to a retrospective of significant works by Chołoniewski, Dark & Light Zone included ‘Mobile’ by young Polish sound artist Wojciech Kosma. Marek Chołoniewski - Dark & Light Zone was curated by Pawel Kaminski.

Chołoniewski is a composer, ‘live computer music’ performer, and author of audio-visual computer projects. He is initiator and artistic director of Audio Art Festival and International Workshops for New Music Krakow/Stuttgart and director of the Electro-Acoustic Music Studio of the Krakow Academy of Music.

Wojciech Kosma graduated with an MA in Sonic Arts from Middlesex University in 2005. He has exhibited and performed across Europe, most recently at Cybersonica in London in 2006.

Marek Chołoniewski - Dark & Light Zone was supported by the Arts Council England, the Polish Cultural Institute, Awards For All and GO.
