An evening performance of minimalist works for recorder.
With its simple, plain construction and pure sound, the recorder reflects the essence of acoustic minimalism. This performance included minimalist, and minimalist-inspired, works written for recorder by Arvo Pärt, Viktor Yekimovsky and Leo Chadburn.
In addition to these pieces, the recorder players of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, directed by Ian Wilson, performed Terry Riley’s ground-breaking work ‘In C’ on a wide array of recorders. The piece, composed in 1964, was written with no specific instrumentation in mind and with elements of the composition left to the determination of the performer.
